It now seems difficult to believe that it was just over a year ago that the world economy was looking into the abyss. The contagion resulting from the earlier collapse of Lehman Brothers was casting a dark cloud, equities were hitting new multi-year lows and a tightening in global liquidity was threatening to send what was already a global downturn into a depression.
